Lancashire bowler Sajid Mahmood has revealed his aim is to get back into the England squad as soon as possible. The 26-year-old was last involved in January 2007 during the unsuccessful winter Ashes tour of Australia. But he admits that he is hoping for a call-up the forthcoming series with New Zealand which begins next month. "Obviously my ambition is to get back in," he told BBC Radio Lancashire. "But first and foremost I have to perform for Lancashire." | If I can be more consistent then I don't think I'll be too far away |
The Bolton-born player, currently playing for his county in the Championship match against Somerset at Old Trafford, believes he has to be firing on all cylinders to be considered. "The main thing is I have to be more consistent," he added. "I've been a little bit up and down and I'm probably the first person to say that. "I've been working a bit over the winter and I've had six months to take a back step and look at what I need to be doing. If I can be more consistent then I don't think I'll be too far away." Tune into BBC Radio Lancashire on 95.5, 103.9 or 104.5FM for the best coverage of every Lancashire game. Chris Mallaband will bring you regular reports, commentary and features throughout the day, and will then round-up the day's play on Lancashire Sport from 1805GMT.
