Hogg ruled out with broken finger

Lancashire have been dealt a major injury blow just a fortnight before the start of the new season after bowler Kyle Hogg was ruled out for five weeks.

The 23-year-old left-handed batsman broke a metacarpal in the fifth finger of his right hand during a training session on Tuesday.

"We were doing training practice," he told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"I just dived for a ball and because it was pretty damp underfoot I slipped and caught my finger."

The way things have been going it's been brilliant and I was just looking forward to the season beginning

Hogg, whose grandfather was West Indies legend Sonny Ramadhin, admitted the severity of the injury only became apparent some time afterwards.

"I just thought it felt a bit sore. But I carried on the fielding practice for another 15 minutes and it started to throb.

"Within about half an hour it had come up like a balloon and after going for an x-ray they told me I'd broken it."

The injury will definitely rule him out of the first two County Championship matches of the campaign against Surrey and Somerset.

"I'm gutted. The way things have been going it's been brilliant and I was just looking forward to the season beginning," he added.
