Ntini was the first black cricketer to represent his country |
South African fast bowler Makhaya Ntini could play for Kent again next summer, according to coach Paul Farbrace. The 33-year-old enjoyed a five-week spell at Canterbury last season, in which he took 24 wickets in just five Championship games. "He is desperate to come back and play and we would be very keen to have him back," Farbrace told BBC Radio Kent. "I wouldn't rule it out but at the same time there are other names that we've talked about." He added: "Ideally I'd like to say 'We've signed X for next season and he'll be here from 1 April until the end of September' but that's highly unlikely. "The good news is that we're are actually in the market actively looking for an overseas player." Just before Ntini went home to South Africa in the summer, he said he would like to return in 2011 but it all depended on his involvement with his national side. Having announced his retirement from international cricket earlier this month a move back to Kent is now much more of a possibility. "I wouldn't say it's a good chance but we have kept in touch with Makhaya ever since he left," said Farbrace. "I've spoken to his manager a few times in the last few weeks. "So there is certainly a keenness for him to come back to Kent - he really enjoyed his time last year."
