Key glad of belated Surrey action

Key was 76 not out at the close

Kent captain Rob Key says his side made the most of their limited playing time in their draw with Surrey before bad light ended the match on the final day.

There were only bonus points to play for in a rain-affected match but both sides fell short of their targets.

Key told BBC Radio Kent: "We were just getting on a roll after having to sit around for four days.

"It was quite exciting at the end with us going for 200 for a point and them going for three wickets for a point."

Key, who finished on 76 not out as his side ended up on 160-1 at the close of play, added: "Sometimes the best way is to come out swinging - the best form of defence was attack."

Both side collected seven points from the match, leaving Kent nine points behind County Championship Division One leaders Nottinghamshire with two games to go.

Kent's next match is a Pro40 game at home to Essex on Saturday. As Essex's match was abandoned at the weekend, Kent know they will gain promotion if they win.
