Rob Key captained Kent to their Twenty20 success in 2007 |
Kent captain Rob Key thinks his side are strong enough to repeat last season's Twenty20 Cup victory. "We've played some good one-day cricket," Key told BBC Radio Kent. "We have skills which should transfer to the shorter form of the game. "People have been bowling and batting well at the death. Hopefully we'll take that confidence into the Twenty20." Kent have already qualified for the semi-finals of this season's Friends Provident Trophy. And Key admits that, as captain, at times of pressure a lot of responsibility rests on his shoulders. "It's not about luck," said Key. "And getting your job right is even more important in the Twenty20. "As a captain I've learned you have to be courageous and prepared to take risks." Kent open their campaign at Canterbury against Sussex Sharks on Wednesday evening (10 June), the team the Spitfires beat in last year's semi-finals. This year's group stage will see all the teams playing each other home and away. And Key insists that is an improvement on last season. "There are more games, which means it comes around earlier," he said. "But it's fairer. "Last year you might have played the weaker teams once and the tougher ones twice. It was pot luck."
