There is increasing concern amongst non-Test match counties about the widening gap in available resources Carl Openshaw

Kent had battled to make a small profit in 2004 but Openshaw does not see a level playing-ground for counties.

He said: "Despite the enthusiasm generated by the Ashes win, finances for most counties remain precarious."

He also pointed the finger at the firm supplying catering in 2005, which will not be returning to Canterbury.

"This is clearly an extremely disappointing outcome for the year," said Openshaw.

"But only counties which benefit from the substantial revenue derived from staging Test matches can look forward to making profits on a consistent basis.
