Blewett has a wealth of experience |
Kent have signed Australian all-rounder Greg Blewett as their overseas player for the first six weeks of the county season. Blewett will deputise for compatriot Andrew Symonds, who will be away on international duty.
"Andrew has a busy playing schedule ahead of him in the next few weeks. We expect to see him in England ready to play for Kent at the start of June," said Director of Cricket Ian Brayshaw.
It will be Blewett's third spell in county cricket, having played previously for Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire.
He has scored 15,501 first-class runs during his career at an average of 46.54, including 42 centuries, and claimed 128 wickets with his medium pace bowling.
"Greg has a proven track record at international level and in County cricket and we are sure he wants to make a success of his time at Kent," Brayshaw commented.
Blewett played 46 Tests and 32 one-day internationals during the 1990s and is still a regular member of the Australia A team.
The 31-year-old is best known for scoring a hundred in each of his first two Test appearances against England in 1995, but ahieved his highest Test score of 214 against South Africa in Johannesburg two years later.
