Ireland will be in the same group as England at the ICC World Twenty20 in the West Indies after losing in the final of the qualifying tournament. Ireland lost by eight wickets to Afghanistan in the decider in Dubai. Batting first, Ireland made 142-8 off their 20 overs, with Niall O'Brien and Alex Cusack both scoring 28 and captain William Porterfield contributing 20. Afghanistan made 147-2 off 17.3 overs in reply, with Kevin O'Brien and Trent Johnston taking a wicket apiece. Earlier on Saturday, Ireland secured their place in the West Indies in April and May by reaching the final of the qualifying tournament. The Irish beat the Netherlands by 65 runs to seal their qualification. Ireland made 151-6 off their 20 overs, with Cusack top-scoring with 65 and Gary Wilson contributing 29. The Netherlands were 86 all out in reply, with George Dockrell taking 4-20 and Andre Botha, Johnston and Peter Connell taking two wickets each. The Dutch were bowled out after just 15.2 overs of their innings.
