Ireland senior player Paul Stirling failed to score against Australia |
Ireland were skittled out for just 65 as they slumped to a 209-run defeat to Australia at the U19 World Cup in New Zealand on Sunday. The Aussies amassed a daunting 274-5 with Alex Heath hitting 88 and Tim Armstrong finished with an unbeaten 73. Andy Balbirnie and Paul Stirling fell early but Ireland recovered to 41-2 before the wickets started to tumble. The Irish have lost their opening two group games and are back in action against the USA on Thursday. Jordan Coghlan and George Dockrell each picked up two wickets as the young Australians piled on the runs at Queenstown. Stuart Thompson top scored for Ireland with 19 while Ben Ackland (11) was only other player to get into double figures.
