Ireland bowled out the United Arab Emirates for 228 on the opening day of the Intercontinental Cup clash in Abu Dhabi after the home side had rallied. After slipping to 121-6, the UAE put on 97 for the sixth wicket but the departures of Samer Zia (56) and Ahmad Raza (46) ended their resistance.
In reply, Ireland were 46-1 at the close having lost debutant Paul Stirling (2) early in their innings.
Dave Langford Smith, Trent Johnston and Alex Cusack all claimed two wickets.
Greg Thompson, Kyle McCallan and Andre Botha also took a wicket while Stirling produced a run-out.
Langford-Smith trapped opener Silva early on and Trent Johnston then claimed the wicket of Anjad Ali.
Paceman Langford-Smith's dismissal of Rashid Khan reduced the UAE to 70-3 and Johnston then had Saqib Ali caught.

Naemuddin (49) was trapped by Greg Thompson while Kyle McCallan dismissed Fernandez to leave the UAE in trouble at 121-6.
Zia and Raza produced some fine strokes to get the home side back into the contest but Cusack bowled Zia to turn the game in Ireland's favour again.
Cusack then claimed the wicket of Shoaib Sarwar first ball and Zahid Shah was run-out by Stirling after one more run had been added.
The UAE innings was concluded by Raza's dismissal by Botha with William Porterfield taking the catch.
Stirling was bowled by Fahad Alhashmi after having scored only two runs but Porterfield (16) and Eoin Morgan (21) steered Ireland to the close with the score on 46-1.
Ireland coach Phil Simmons opted to give a first cap to Stirling while Thompson was preferred to Gary Kidd and Thinus Fourie.
All-rounder Reinhardt Strydom, who had been tipped to make his debut, was not included in Ireland's starting eleven.
