Hampshire have revealed they are talking to Australian fast bowler Brett Lee about him joining the County Championship Division One side.

The 33-year-old former Test bowler is in Australia's World Twenty20 squad for the competition which begins on 30 April in the West Indies.

In a statement, Hampshire said talks with Lee, who retired from Test cricket in February, were at an advanced stage.

The club said they hoped to make a further announcement in due course.

Lee has been plagued by injuries since making his Test debut against India in 1999 and missed the entire 2009 Ashes series after struggling with a side strain.

He underwent an operation on his elbow last December, but when he announced his Test retirement he said he wanted to continue his Twenty20 and one-day career.
