Banerjee spent time with England's performance squad last winter

Gloucestershire spinner Vikram Banerjee has signed a one-year extension which will keep him at Nevil Road until 2012.

The 26-year-old slow left-armer signed for the Bristol-based county in 2007 having played just once for Surrey's 2nd XI.

"I am delighted to have signed for another year with Gloucestershire and I am looking forward to the challenges of next season," said Banerjee.

"I want to win games for the team and help us win trophies and promotion."

Banerjee's signing is a rare piece of good news for Gloucestershire who have lost four players since the end of the season, decimating their pace attack.

Steve Kirby left for West Country rivals Somerset, Anthony Ireland moved to Middlesex and Gemaal Hussain has also called time on his career at the County Ground.

While on Tuesday opening bat William Porterfield signed a three year deal with Warwickshire.

Gloucestershire director of cricket John Bracewell said: "Our tactics this summer were primarily formed around our pace attack, but Vikram showed on occasions that he can be a match-winner in his own right.

"Given that some of our seam bowlers have moved on, he will play a more important role next season and becomes one of our more senior players."
