Gloucestershire have confirmed Malinga Bandara will play for them this summer if fellow Sri Lankan Upul Chandana is called away for international duty. Sri Lanka are scheduled to play India, West Indies and Bangladesh in a spell lasting from July to September.
"Malinga took 11-126 against England A in the spring and clearly is another exciting leg-spinner," said chief executive Tom Richardson.
"However, should Upul not be required for these matches, he'll stay at Glos."
Bandara has taken 188 first-class wickets at an average of 25 during his career and 56 in one-day cricket.
He was only 18 when he made his Test debut against New Zealand in Colombo seven years ago, but failed to pick up a single wicket and has not been chosen since.
Gloucestershire are keeping their options open about signing a second overseas player later in the summer.
Australian seam bowler Nathan Bracken, who had a brief spell with them last summer, has expressed an interest in returning.
"They're interested in having me over towards the end of the season which would suit me perfectly," Bracken commented.
