Spearman played 19 Tests for New Zealand
Former New Zealand batsman Craig Spearman has signed a new four-year contract with Gloucestershire.

The 32-year-old, who has a Welsh mother, was their leading scorer in the 2004 Championship with 1,424 runs at an average of almost 57.

He beat WG Grace's 128-year-old club record with an innings of 341 against Middlesex in June.

Spearman qualifies to play for England next year and said: "I really do think of this as home."

He won the last of his 19 Test caps for New Zealand in 2001 and was invited to join Gloucestershire the following year by then coach John Bracewell.

Spearman also played a major part in th club's C&G Trophy success last summer, scoring 143 in the semi-final victory over Yorkshire and 70 off 77 balls against Worcestershire in the final.
