Robert Croft celebrated his 1,000th Glamorgan wicket at St Helen's

Robert Croft has put pen to paper on a new two-year deal with Glamorgan, which also includes coaching duties.

The 40-year-old former England spinner became the fourth Glamorgan bowler to reach 1,000 first-class wickets for the Welsh county last season.

Croft made his Glamorgan debut in 1989 and has just completed his 22nd season.

"I'm very happy to continue my association with the club and I'm looking forward to working with our young and talented players," he said.

For the 2011 season, in addition to his playing responsibilities, Croft will also assume a coaching role, assisting with the development of the Glamorgan's young players.

In July this year, at St Helen's Cricket Ground in Swansea, Croft became the first Glamorgan cricketer, and only the ninth for all counties since 1945, to achieve the career double of 1,000 first-class wickets and 10,000 first-class runs for a single county.

"Robert is a real asset to the club," said Alan Hamer, Glamorgan's chief executive.

"Having spent 21 years with the club, he still has a great deal to offer and with one eye on the future, we are looking forward to seeing Robert work with our younger players to help develop their skills and talent."

Despite being considered a considerable asset Croft, who made 21 Test and 50 one-day appearances for England, had limited opportunities during the 2010 season.

He played in every Friends Provident T20 match for the county but only figured in half of Glamorgan's County Championship games.

When Croft claimed his 1,000th wicket against Leicestershire in July he joined Don Shepherd, Jack Mercer and Johnnie Clay who were the other three to have achieved the feat.
