Mark Cosgrove has completed his second season at Glamorgan

Glamorgan's newly-crowned player of the year Mark Cosgrove will have to wait to find out if he has a future at the Welsh county.

The 26-year-old Australian batsman has yet to be offered a new deal despite picking up the accolade at Friday's end-of-season awards.

"I'd love to sign a contract as soon as I can," Cosgrove told BBC Sport Wales.

"I want to come back... but things like this happens. I obviously understand where everybody's at, at the moment."

Glamorgan's season ended in disappointment on Thursday when they missed out on promotion to Division One after drawing with Derbyshire in their final game.

Glam were once 37 points clear and looked set for promotion back to the County Championship's top-flight after a five-year absence.

But they were held to their third draw in a row by Derbyshire and a four-game winless run at the wrong time.

Opener Cosgrove made 1,187 runs in first-class cricket this season, plus 959 in one-day cricket, pipping Tom Maynard and Jim Allenby to the player of the year award.

Chief executive Alan Hamer insists no decision will be made on the future of Australia one-day international Cosgrove and other players until a season review has been held.

"What we've said to him is that we don't want to commit ourselves to any player signings at the moment," said Hamer.

"We are going to wait until we come up with a strategy for next season as to how we want to take the club forward.

"Part of that process will include a decision on the overseas (players) and once we are in a position to confirm something then we will make it public."

Tom Maynard won the award for young player of the year, while Dan Roberts of Pontarddulais CC won the academy player of the year award, with Jake Kings from Chepstow CC picking up the academy's most promising player of the year.
