Gibbs has played 244 one-day internationals over the last 11 years |
Herschelle Gibbs says his ambition is to get back into the South Africa Test team and add to his 90 caps. The 35-year-old right-hand batsman has not played Test cricket since January 2008, but is still a regular in the one-day team. Gibbs has re-joined Glamorgan determined to prove he is still a five-day asset. "I'd like to get back in the Test team. That is my first objective at this stage," Gibbs told BBC Sport Wales. "I have played a lot of one-day cricket over the last two years and obviously I have got big aspirations as far as the four-day and first class cricket is concerned." Gibbs has already shown his one-day credentials by helping the Deccan Chargers to the Indian Premier League title, and is now with Glamorgan for the next six weeks. And he said he was content with his form. "I have had a few starts so far but haven't capitalised," he said. "I'm hitting it nice and straight. "I always believe balance is the crucial thing for me and my balance is probably as good as always." Glamorgan take on Kent in a Pro40 League clash on Tuesday hoping home advantage under the Swalec Stadium lights can secure Glamorgan a win. "[Kent are] one of the better teams around," added Gibbs. "They have got a really good well-balanced team. "But obviously in front of the home people and it would be nice to give them a victory," added Gibbs. "[The Swalec Stadium] is a lovely little setting. The Test match has put it on the map and there's good energy around the ground and if we can gather a few wins it will make the home fans more excited."
