Gareth Rees struck an unbeaten 78 as Glamorgan opened their pre-season tour of South Africa with an easy win over Western Province Academy. Glamorgan won the one-day game in Cape Town on Tuesday by eight wickets with 18 overs to spare. The Western Province youngsters were restricted to 143 for 7 in their 45 overs with Will Owen taking 3-20. Rees led the reply in a third wicket stand of 82 with Tom Maynard as the county reached 144-2 in the 27th over. "We showed great energy in the field, and I was pleased by the way all of the bowlers put the ball in the right areas from the outset. "When it came to batting, Gareth Rees picked up where he left off last summer, and it's great to start our pre-season tour of South Africa with a comprehensive victory." Glamorgan have three more games on their tour starting with a match against Bellville on 19 March, followed by another one-day game against Holland on 23 March. A two-day clash with Western Province comes after that (25-26 March) with the tour ending with a 45-over game against Combined Academy in Durbanville (27 March).
