Herschelle Gibbs linked with Glamorgan as their overseas player next season |
Former Glamorgan captain Steve James has welcomed the county's expected move to recruit Herschelle Gibbs as their overseas star next year. The South Africa batsman played for Glamorgan in this summer's Twenty20 Cup but is now expected to to join for most of the 2009 campaign. Glamorgan are also being linked with Gibbs' fellow South African Garnett Kruger. "I think that is good news for Glamorgan to go for Gibbs," said James. But James was less sure about the qualities of Kruger, who is currently playing as a Kolpak signing with Leicestershire. "He's a decent bowler but I wouldn't say he is a world class performer," added James. | 606: DEBATE |
"I do know that Leicestershire are trying to offload some of their Kolpaks - they do have a few. "But I do not have a problem Glamorgan having one Kolpak player with Gibbs as an overseas." Gibbs has been playing for South Africa in the one-day series with England and has been in Cardiff this week for the fifth and final match between the countries.
