Maynard says Glamorgan are now battling for a Pro40 play-off spot
Matthew Maynard said late-summer games should be started earlier after bad light helped Glamorgan to a Duckworth-Lewis 49-run Pro40 defeat in Yorkshire.
"The Board seriously need to look at timing in the future," said Maynard.
The Welsh side were heading for a loss, but that was confirmed by the new law that allows umpires to end the game for bad light without consulting captains.
"Our batsmen wanted to carry on, but it's a litigious society, umpires have to look at safety first," said Maynard.
"Mark Wallace felt he could still win it the way he's been playing, but it was a long shot.
"We got the rough end of it, but it was the correct decision, it was pretty dark out there."
Umpire Jeff Evans added: "The light had deteriorated to such a degree that it was way below the level we would expect to play championship cricket in."
Glamorgan's defeat in Scarborough means that to secure automatic promotion they must now win their final Pro40 game against Derbyshire in Cardiff on Monday and hope that other results go their way.
A third-placed finish would ensure a play-off with the third-from-bottom side in Division One.
"We're definitely battling for third spot now rather than second," said cricket manager Maynard.
"But we would have taken that at the start of the season. It'll be a big match against Derbyshire on 8 September."
Before that, Glamorgan must travel to Derby for Tuesday's LV County Championship Division Two match.
Maynard will be without seamer James Harris, who has a back injury, and has hinted at changes to his misfiring batting line-up.
In a 13-man squad, David Harrison and Tom Maynard have been added to the 11 who drew with Northamptonshire on Saturday.
Glamorgan squad to face Derbyshire in the County Championship: GP Rees, RN Grant, DL Hemp (capt), MJ Powell, JWM Dalrymple, TL Maynard, MA Wallace (wk), AG Wharf, RDB Croft, JN Gillespie, DA Cosker, AJ Shantry and DS Harrison.
