County Championship D2, Southend (day one, stumps): Essex 139-5 v Glamorgan 139 all out
Essex took a firm grip of their LV County Championship game against Glamorgan on the first day. The visitors won the toss and chose to bat but their decision backfired as they were dismissed for a paltry 139. The uneven bounce on the pitch did not help Glamorgan, while Chris Wright made the most of it by taking career-best figures of 4-30. Division Two's bottom side then saw Essex reach their total with five wickets down by the end of play.
