Matthew Wood has signed a two-year deal with Glamorgan

The 30-year-old has become the club's first close-season recruit after agreeing two-year deal.

"Matthew is a proven performer at the top of the order," manager Matthew Maynard told the club's website.

"We are very pleased to have signed a player with both that calibre and experience and I'm sure he will have a positive influence on our squad."

Wood made his Yorkshire debut in 1997 and in his first full season the following year, he passed 1,000 runs.

So far, Wood has scored 6,840 runs in first-class cricket and has struck 16 centuries.

He recorded his career-best score of 207 against Somerset at Taunton in 2003 during a summer in which he amassed 1,423 runs in Championship matches and won the Yorkshire Player of the Year Award.

He was also an ever-present member of the Yorkshire side that won the County Championship in 2005.

Wood said: "It's a new challenge for me. I still feel there's plenty more to come from me.

"I want to improve as a player as well and at 30, I think I've got a fair bit to go."

Meanwhile, Glamorgan batsman Mike Powell has played his first game since an arm injury in the summer which ended in him spending time in intensive care and having a rib removed.

Powell led the team in a social fund-raising game against Worcestershire in Guernsey, but says his involvement was limited to standing at mid-off for 20 overs.

"It was only a comeback in a very loose sense, but at least I got through it," he told BBC Sport Wales.

"I never intended to bat and I've got a long way to get back to proper fitness."

But Powell says he's confident of being back at the start of next season with a full programme of training and rehabilitation over the winter.
