Derbyshire ended Glamorgan's Twenty20 Floodlit Cup hopes with a thrilling victory courtesy of a play-off.

Having lost the first leg of the semi-final on Tuesday, Glamorgan tied the contest with a six-wicket win in Thursday's return at the County Ground.

That saw the two sides play a historic 'extra time' of four overs a side to meet Essex in the competition final.

Derby made 42-3 off their four overs, but Glamorgan fell four runs short as a poor last over saw them end on 38-2.

In the 20-over match, Travis Birt got Derby off to a brisk start with a half-century from 30 balls.

But the Australian fell to Dean Cosker, whose 3-23 together with Robert Croft's off-spin put a brake on the home side's progress as Derby finished on 156-8.

In Glamorgan's reply, Richard Grant and Mark Cosgrove produced a half-centry stand to get the Welsh county off to a tidy start.

Needing 32 off the final four overs, Ryan Watkins and James Franklin powered Glamorgan over the finish line and summon in the four-over decider.

Ant Botha struck two sixes and two fours in an impressive cameo to help Derbyshire to their 42-3 play-off total.

Glamorgan's reply kept up with the required rate until the final over.
