St Helen's has hosted first-class cricket in Swansea since 1912

Glamorgan will continue to play first-class cricket at Swansea's St Helen's ground for four more seasons.

Swansea Council granted a new three-year licence following its meetings with the Glamorgan club and the St Helen's Balconiers.

The new deal confirms a minimum of five days' first-class cricket per year.

"Glamorgan are delighted. With 2005 the final year of the existing license it was important we confirmed the position," chief exec Mike Fatkin said.

The Swansea ground will host three Glamorgan matches this season - all in June - against Sussex in the Championship, against Nottinghamshire in the Totesport League and against Warwickshire in the Twenty20 Cup.

Fatkin added: "We are looking forward to the fixtures in Swansea in June, and in particular to our first Twenty20 match in Swansea."

St Helen's, which has hosted first-class cricket since 1912, witnessed the six sixes in one over struck by West Indian legend Sir Garfield Sobers in 1968.

It is the home ground of current captain Robert Croft, who lists it as his favourite place to play cricket.

Gerald Clement, Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism said: "This is fantastic news for the people of Swansea.

"St Helen's has a wonderful cricketing history. The issuing of the new licence will mean another three years of exciting cricket at the ground.

"There has been an excellent spirit of cooperation between the Council, Glamorgan Cricket and the St Helen's Balconiers.

"Reaching this agreement is a tribute to everyone involved."
