Glamorgan and England fast bowler Simon Jones says he has been given promises by his county that he will be played when released from international duty. The 26-year-old had hesitated before signing a new three-year deal at Sophia Gardens because he was not an automatic choice last season.
But Jones says that the dispute was ironed out in contract negotiations.
"I've been assured I won't be left out again when I'm released from an England squad," he told BBC Sport Wales.
"When you're an England player you expect to be an automatic choice for your county, even if they have been playing well without you.
"That wasn't happening for me and it set alarm bells going in my head.
"I had to think long and hard about things over the winter, but I've been in talks with [Glamorgan chief executive] Mike Fatkin and [county captain] Robert Croft who have been fantastic."
 | My big worry was being dropped from the four-day side |
It had been thought that Jones' major bone of contention was the fact that he was little-used in Glamorgan's one-day side, but he revealed that the Championship games are his major concern. "I hope to be up for selection for the one-dayers where I feel I can help out and add something extra, but my big worry was being dropped from the four-day side," he said.
"Glamorgan are seasoned campaigners in the one-dayers and few teams can touch them there.
"But it will be a big season in the Championship after going up to the first division.
"You need stability and patience against the big teams, and we've not always shown that."
As well as helping Glamorgan as they step up a level in the county championship, Jones also has the small matter of an Ashes series with England on his mind. "Australia are the best team in the world, they've shown that over a number of years now," he said.
"England have got up there with them, but this summer will be our big test and we will see where we really stand."
