Glamorgan have signed Australian fast-medium bowler Michael Lewis as cover for fellow countryman Mike Kasprowicz. Lewis has been pencilled in for a debut on 22 August in the National Totesport League match against Lancashire Lightning at Colwyn Bay.
Kasprowicz is expected to be away on international duty at the end of August in a three-nation event in Holland.
Glamorgan's overseas batsman Matthew Elliott recommended 30-year-old Lewis after playing with him for Victoria.
Lewis will play for Glamorgan's second team before stepping up to the senior side. He was the fourth-highest wicket taker in the Pura Cup competition in Australia last winter with 34, taking six for 59 in the final against Queensland to help Victoria lift the trophy.
He also took five for 57 in the Pura Cup final of 2001, contributing to a first-class career haul of 124 wickets.
"Given the amount of important cricket at the end of the season - four Championship and four one-day games - our view was that we should try to strengthen the side in Michael's absence," said Glamorgan chief executive Mike Fatkin.
"We also know that a number of counties are in the market trying to find replacements for players likely to be involved in the ICC Trophy so we've been keen to make our own arrangements early.
"Having received a medical report from Victoria confirming that he's back to full fitness we're delighted that Mick Lewis has agreed to join us.
"We're sure he'll do an excellent job for us."
