Jones had an operation to rebuild his knee in mid-February |
Glamorgan do not expect injured England paceman Simon Jones to play much cricket this season.
Jones has not appeared for club or country since rupturing a cruciate ligament in his right knee in a freak fielding accident on the first day of the first Ashes Test last November.
He had an operation in mid-February to rebuild the knee and has only recently placed any pressure on it.
"With Simon we're looking at being without him for most of the season at best," Glamorgan coach John Derrick told BBC Ceefax Sport.
"He's been out on the square doing some work which he hadn't before.
"He's been on the treadmill and has also been at Lilleshall. He's worked very hard but it's a long process."
It was thought at the time that Jones' injury would sideline him for 10 months.
But Derrick said Jones would not be rushed back into action.
"People see him in the street and wonder why he can't play but I've told him we will wait as long as it takes even if it is in the middle of next winter," he added.
"Now is the hardest time for him when he sees people out in the field playing.
"But he's in good spirits and is realistic about the situation."
