The 30-year-old agreed a three-year contract to finalise the move, predicted in October by BBC Radio Wales. The Bermuda-born batsman scored almost 1,000 runs for Warwickshire last term, with a highest score of 186, but did not sign a new contract with the Bears. Instead, despite interest from Essex, he chose to return to Sophia Gardens, where he began his career. Hemp said: "I've enjoyed my five years with Warwickshire, but when I knew Glamorgan were interested in re-signing me it was just too attractive a proposition for me to turn down. "I learned all of my cricket in Wales and I'm looking forward to playing my part in helping the side regain their place in the first division. "It's a great move for me, a fantastic opportunity, and I can't wait to get started." Glamorgan captain Steve James said: "I think David is an outstanding cricketer and I've no doubt his best years are still to come. "It's nice to be welcoming him back into the fold and I'm sure he'll have a significant impact." Hemp's signing means that Glamorgan are now likely to target a bowler as their overseas player to replace Aussie batsman Jimmy Maher. The position of coach, to replace Jeff Hammond, is likely to be taken by Glamorgan stalwart John Derrick. Derrick's post as second-team chief may go to Adrian Shaw, who is set to combine the duties with wicket-keeping. |
