Essex paceman Andrew McGarry is set to miss the rest of the season after he hurt his right hand at Nottinghamshire. The 25-year-old was injured as he tried to field a straight drive from Mark Wagh in only his third over.
Physio Mark Thomas said: "An X-ray has revealed a fracture. This will require surgery and Andrew will hopefully have this in London in the next day or two."
McGarry only rejoined Essex this month on a one-season deal having been released by the county in 2003.
His injury comes on the back of the news that young fast bowlers Mervyn Westfield and Maurice Chambers will most of the rest of the season after suffering stress fractures.
