Adams hits maiden ton
Day two of three, Taunton. Somerset 413-3 dec. and 160-0; Loughborough UCCE 345-8 dec. (close)

James Adams, who had never previously hit a first-class fifty, managed to score 107 against a Somerset attack featuring Richard Johnson and West Indies paceman Nixon McLean.

The 22-year-old, who will play for Hampshire later in the season, scored 75% of his runs in fours as McLean and Aaron Laraman came in for some heavy punishment.

Only England international Ian Blackwell had much joy with the ball.

Blackwell's slow left-armers brought him figures of 5-65 before the students were able to declare just before tea.

Chris Nash and Zoheb Sharif weighed in with important contributions for Loughborough on a miserable track for the seamers.

In their second innings, Somerset faced 33 overs without losing a wicket, with Peter Bowler (73 not out) and Rob Turner (84 not out) untroubled.

Somerset: P D Bowler, P C L Holloway, M Burns (Capt), J Cox, J D C Bryant, I D Blackwell, R J Turner (Wkt), A W Laraman, R L Johnson, N A M McLean, S R G Francis.

Loughborough UCCE: J H K Adams (Capt), R A White, J D Francis, V Atri, C D Nash, Z K Sharif, R E King, L Goddard (Wkt), D H Wigley, J Anyon, R A G Cummins.
