Breese notched the runs that won Durham's FPT tie with Notts |
Durham all-rounder Gareth Breese says they must not be fazed by anyone in the Friends Provident Trophy if they are to retain their crown this season. "If we want to be where we were at the end of last season we have to beat anybody," he told BBC Radio Newcastle. "We have to play to the best of our ability and show what we can do. "We can have no preferences. If you have preferences then you take things for granted and we just have to go out and play some hard cricket." Breese was at the crease to help Durham to a one-wicket win against Nottinghamshire in Wednesday's quarter-final, just as it seemed the Dynamos were ready to collapse. Along with a string of partners, Breese notched 34 runs, and praised team-mate Mark Davies for his efforts in grinding out the result.
Cannot play media. Sorry, this media is not available in your territory. "I was backing Davies all the way. We have a thing in the dressing room where we back our lower order batsmen, they can handle themselves," said Breese. "I was backing that even if I got a boundary, not a six, maybe a four, I was sure Davies could give me the strike. "As it happened I really middled that one over the boundary so I guess [there was] one less ball to face."
