Gibson brings massses of experience to a youthful squad |
Veteran West Indian bowler Ottis Gibson has signed a two-year contract with Durham after failing to agree a new deal with Leicestershire. Gibson was the top wicket-taker for the Foxes for two years, but was delighted to be snapped up by Durham, who won double promotion last summer.
The 36-year-old said: "This is a really exciting time for Durham. I'm looking forward to the challenges ahead."
Gibson has represented his country in both Test and one-day cricket.
Durham head coach Martyn Moxon said: "We are absolutely delighted that Ottis has agreed to join the club for the start of the 2006 season.
"He is an important addition to our seam attack, his proven ability and experience will undoubtedly be an asset to the squad."
Gibson added: "There is a talented bunch of young bowlers at the club and the opportunity to work with them and to help them develop is an exciting one."
