Wagg says spinner Robin Peterson could be a key player

Derbyshire all-rounder Graham Wagg believes his side are well prepared for the new season.

Wagg told BBC Radio Derby: "We've got that bit of extra pace with Footy [Mark Footitt] - he's stayed fit and we've looked after him well.

"Robin Peterson is coming in as a number one spinner, which we didn't really have last year, and could make a big difference."

Derbyshire start their campaign against Surrey at the Oval on Friday.

Wagg said the side had prepared well for the season despite the poor English weather.

"The Barbados trip was fantastic. I had a niggle out there in my ankle, so it played up a bit but for the squad it was a fantastic trip and it's got us ready for the season," he said.

"We're really looking forward to getting out on Friday at the Oval."

Wagg added that Derbyshire are looking forward to this season's Twenty20 campaign.

"We've been working hard on it as bowlers and as batters, so really we can't wait for the season to get started," he said.

Peterson joined Derbyshire as a Kolpak player in December while Footitt signed ahead of the 2010 season after five seasons with Nottinghamshire.
