Derbyshire sign Leicester keeper

Derbyshire

Derbyshire have completed the signing of Leicestershire wicketkeeper-batsman Tom New on a one-month loan.

The 23-year-old will provide cover for James Pipe, who broke his finger against Northamptonshire on Wednesday.

New will be pressed into service immediately in this Sunday's Pro 40 match against Surrey.

"At this stage we wanted to bring in someone who can make an impact and I am sure Tom will grasp this opportunity," said head of cricket John Morris.

"James has been in great form this summer but has unfortunately suffered a broken finger which will sideline him for a while.

"Tom is a talented young player who has had a good amount of first-team cricket and is a very capable batsman," Morris added.

New has played 44 first-class matches for Leicestershire, and has a batting average of 31.98.
