Steve Stubbings hailed Chris Rogers after the pair's superb opening stand set up Derbyshire's crushing Friends Provident Trophy win over Lancashire.
Stubbings scored an unbeaten 95 and Rogers 94 as their 150-run partnership set the base for a 100-run victory.
Stubbings told BBC Radio Derby: "Buck (Rogers) was brilliant.
"Everything he hit seemed to go in the middle and he raced to 90, got us off to a great start and made life really easy for me batting at the other end."
Stubbings added: "He's in fantastic touch this year and that's a great thing."
But, despite his selfless match-winning innings Stubbings said he was a little bit upset not to have reached his century: "It would have been great to get a hundred.
