Derbyshire have turned down batsman Chris Taylor's request to be released from his contract with the county. Taylor signed a a new two-year deal in September following an impressive first season after moving from Yorkshire but has been out of favour this year.
The 26-year-old was criticised recently for scoring slowly in a second XI game.
"Chris asked for an improved contract. We were prepared to do that. We would now like that to be honoured," said Derbyshire chief executive Tom Sears.
"Contracts work both ways. We have shown faith in Chris and we expect something back.
"He has been assured by the chairman and the captain that he is an important part of our plans."
