Middlebrook had never before reached 50 in one-day cricket

James Middlebrook starred with bat and ball as Northants earned a five-wicket CB 40 win over Derbyshire at Derby.

Middlebrook (3-34) was one of three Northants bowlers to take three wickets as Derbyshire were all out for 171, despite 55 from Chesney Hughes.

He then had plenty of work to do with the bat after seeing his side slump to 48-4 and then 76-5.

But Middlebrook hit an unbeaten 57 and put on 96 with Stephen Peters (53no) to guide them home with three overs left.

It was Middlebrook's highest one-day score and helped ensure that Graham Wagg's last home game as a Derbyshire player ended in defeat.
