The Birmingham rain meant no play was possible between Warwickshire and Essex on day two at Edgbaston.

The washout does little for either side's bid to avoid relegation from Division One.

Warwickshire began the game 17 points from safety, with Essex six adrift, but seventh-placed Hampshire have at least one game in hand on both sides.

In the 27.3 overs that were possible on day one, Essex were reduced to 90-7, with Chris Woakes taking 3-28.
