Shivnarine Chanderpaul stars for Lancashire at Kent
COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION ONE, Canterbury: CLOSE OF PLAY, DAY THREE: Lancashire 266 & 321, Kent 249 & 84-2 Lancs 5pts, Kent 4pts Match scorecard
Chanderpaul scored a century against Hampshire in July
Shivnarine Chanderpaul hit a second century in four outings to leave Kent's match with Lancashire finely poised.
After resuming on 105-3, Lancashire were dismissed for 321, of which Chanderpaul hit 120, helped by Gareth Cross (50) and Saj Mahmood (41no).
Simon Cook (4-62) achieved his best figures of the season to leave Kent needing 339 to win.
They closed on 84-2, needing another 255, with openers Joe Denly and Rob Key already back in the pavilion.
Denly squared up and was beaten by an excellent delivery from Chapple to be out for 12, while Key dragged his back foot when pushing defensively at Gary Keedy and was stumped for 30.
Earlier, the first two sessions of the day had belonged pretty much to Chanderpaul, who had made a golden duck in the first innings.
Lancashire's only casualty of the morning session came when Steven Croft (43) aimed an ambitious cut at Cook and was caught behind.
Chanderpaul and Cross added 89 for the fifth wicket but the partnership was broken 10 overs after lunch, when the latter lost his middle and off stumps.
Lancashire's resistance then began to crumble, but not before Chanderpaul reached three figures by pulling a short ball from Coles to the ropes at deep midwicket.
The new ball accounted for the former West Indian captain when he pushed defensively inside the line of a Cook off-cutter, leg before to end his 234-ball vigil.
