COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION ONE, Scarborough: Yorkshire v Essex - NO PLAY ON DAY ONE, RAIN Match scorecard
Yorkshire's County Championship hopes were hit when day one of their match with Hampshire at Scarborough was abandoned without a ball being bowled. Morning rain prevented any action before lunch, with the start then scheduled for 1400 BST. But the bad weather returned, forcing the umpires to call off the day's play. Third-placed Yorkshire lie six points behind leaders Nottinghamshire, who have a game in hand, and two adrift of Somerset in second. Both Notts and Somerset begin their next Championship games on Tuesday, with home games against Lancashire and Durham respectively. | 606: DEBATE |
Meanwhile, Yorkshire have asked the England and Wales Cricket Board to solve a potential scheduling problem. The Tykes are on course for a home semi-final in the Clydesdale Bank 40 on Saturday, 11 September, a day before Headingley hosts England's one-day international with Pakistan. The Tykes would like to switch the game to Scarborough, but broadcasters Sky say they cannot get their trucks into the North Marine Road ground in order to cover the match.
