COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION TWO, Grace Road: CLOSE OF PLAY, DAY TWO: Leicestershire 204 & 59-4, Sussex 379 Leics 4pts, Sussex 7pts Match scorecard
Nash's 184 is his first century of the season |
A career-best score from opener Chris Nash gave Division Two leaders Sussex control over Leicestershire on day two at Grace Road. Nash hit 21 fours and a six on his way to 184 before falling to former England pace bowler Matthew Hoggard (5-81). Yasir Arafat (58) then smashed three sixes as Sussex reached 379 all out. Leicestershire slumped to 59-4 in their second innings, still trailing by 116 runs, with Arafat and Corey Collymore taking two wickets each. The tone for Leicestershire's disappointing day was set in the second over when Nash was put down at slip by Will Jefferson. It would prove to be an expensive error as Nash, who added 89 for the sixth wicket with Ben Brown (38) put Sussex in command. Leicestershire lost openers Jefferson and Paul Nixon - both lbw to Collymore - as well as James Taylor, who was caught behind off Arafat to slip to 18-3. Jacques du Toit (31 not out) and Andrew McDonald tried to fight back, but McDonald was bowled by Arafat before bad light and rain ended play early.
