Trego reached his half-century off 61 balls and Kieswetter followed him to the landmark in the same over, having faced 87 deliveries, as the pair put on 113 for the seventh wicket. Pattinson claimed his fifth wicket when Trego drove a catch to Mark Wagh at deep cover, while Samit Patel (3-93) and Charlie Shreck mopped up the tail. Wood and Alex Hales put on an opening stand of 41 for Nottinghamshire, but Hales was caught at slip by Marcus Trescothick off the fifth ball of Murali Kartik's first over. Mark Wagh then fell to Trego after making just four, but Wood stood firm for two hours before falling victim to Arul Suppiah. Charl Willoughby (2-75) took two wickets in the first over of the evening session - first the crucial wicket of Australian David Hussey and then Ali Brown two balls later. Patel and Read rebuilt Nottinghamshire's innings, with Patel reaching his fifty from 103 balls, with eight fours and a six, and Read's half-century coming from just 58 deliveries.
