CLYDESDALE BANK 40, Schiedam: Derbyshire 182-3 (37 ovs) beat Netherlands 181-9 (40 ovs) by seven wickets Match scorecard
Hughes signed a three-year contract with Derbyshire in June |
Chesney Hughes hit 72 to steer Derbyshire to a seven-wicket CB 40 win over the Netherlands at Schiedam. Mudassar Bukhari hit 69 not out from 52 balls to help the home side post 181-9 from their 40 overs. Hughes, who hit five fours and a six in his 113-ball effort, then shared an opening stand of 111 with captain Chris Rogers (56). Hughes was run out with Derbyshire just two short of victory, but the visitors got home with three overs to spare. Rogers won the toss, opting to field first, and was rewarded as Tim Groenewald (2-42) and Mark Footitt (3-27) reduced Holland to 22-2. Michael Dighton steadied things with a patient 16, but was third man out to Steffan Jones (3-27) in the 14th over. After Tom Cooper and Peter Borren fell cheaply, Bukhari and Bas Zuiderent (31) added 76 for the sixth wicket, but the tail contributed little in support. Derbyshire eased to victory, but Dighton (2-33) took the wickets of Rogers and then Greg Smith for 12. When Hughes departed, new man Wayne Madsen wasted no time in securing the two points, hitting the winning runs off his second ball.
