Rain frustrates Somerset and Kent

COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION ONE, Taunton:
NO PLAY ON DAY THREE, RAIN: Somerset 205 & 128-2, Kent 172
Somerset 4pts, Kent 3pts
Match scorecard

LV County Championship

Rain washed out the whole day's play at Taunton with Somerset still leading Kent by 161 runs with eight second-innings wickets standing.

Somerset skipper Marcus Trescothick remains unbeaten on 59, while Alfonso Thomas is yet to score.

Somerset are well placed to win their fourth match of the season and threaten Yorkshire at the top of the table.

Kent, with only one County Championship win this season, need points to keep up with seventh-placed Hampshire.

Rain began to fall 15 minutes before the scheduled start of play and several heavy showers fell throughout the day.

The outfield soon became very wet and, after several inspections, the umpires abandoned play.
