Shahzad is in England's 12-man squad for the first Test at Trent Bridge |
Ajmal Shahzad set Yorkshire on the way to an eight-wicket Clydesdale Bank 40 win over Middlesex at Lord's. On the day he was named in the England squad for the first Test with Pakistan, Shahzad picked up 4-34 to help restrict Middlesex to 183-9. A first-wicket stand of 101 between Jacques Rudolph (86 no) and Andrew Gale (39) effectively ended the contest. Adam Lyth (34) also weighed in as the visitors got home on 184-2 with three overs to spare. After the hosts elected to bat, Shahzad removed Scott Newman and Tim Bresnan struck twice to reduce them to 38-3. Gareth Berg (40) and Dawid Malan (28) led the fightback, but both men were removed by David Wainwright before Shahzad got to work on the lower order, encountering resistance from only Tom Scollay (32). Rudolph and Gale then ensured that Yorkshire were never in danger of losing their 100% record in the CB 40 this season.
