Hales faced 113 deliveries for his unbeaten 96 |
Opener Alex Hales guided Nottinghamshire to a five-wicket victory over Durham in the Clydesdale Bank 40 at Chester-le-Street. Hales, who was dropped on two by Gareth Breese, struck an unbeaten 96 to see the visitors to their target of 182. He shared a third-wicket stand of 86 with Samit Patel (46), as Notts got home with more than four overs spare. Earlier, Gordon Muchall's 77 helped Durham to 181-8, with Patel and Darren Pattinson each taking two wickets. Durham were struggling at 74-4, but Muchall shared stands of 33 with Ian Blackwell (14), 34 with Ben Stokes (12) and 33 with Breese (17) to take the hosts a competitive, but ultimately insufficient, total. Notts were coasting when Hales and Patel were together but wobbled when Patel was stumped off Blackwell and Mitch Claydon removed both David Hussey and Steven Mullaney. However Hales, who survived the chance at slip off the bowling of Chris Rushworth, held firm to see Notts to victory.
