CLYDESDALE BANK 40, Old Trafford: Lancashire 144-1 (26.4 ovs) v Unicorns 143 (39.5 ovs) by nine wickets Match scorecard
Croft and Brown reached their target with more than 13 overs to spare |
Lancashire cruised past the part-time Unicorns by nine wickets in their Clydesdale Bank 40 tie to move above them into fourth place in Group A. Captain Keith Parsons and Michael O'Shea both made 27, but no other Unicorns passed 20 as they were bowled out for 143 with a ball to spare. Stephen Parry was the most economical bowler with 2-18 from his eight overs. Lancashire lost Stephen Moore early but Karl Brown (65) and Steven Croft (39) added an unbroken 99 to see them home. Brown was one of four Lancashire players making their first 40-over appearance of the season, after the Red Rose county lost four of its first six matches in that format. And the home side's attack tore into the Unicorns batting line-up, as Sajid Mahmood, Kyle Hogg, Gary Keedy and England Lions left-arm spinner Parry took two wickets apiece. Only a ninth-wicket stand between Neil Saker and Chris Brown helped the part-timers past three figures. Moore was caught down the leg side off Glen Querl's medium pace after hitting a rapid 21 from 12 balls, but Brown's career-best 65, which included five fours and two sixes, ensured there would be no upset at Old Trafford.
