CLYDESDALE BANK 40, Derby: Gloucestershire (152-5 from 28.3 overs) beat Derbyshire (225-8) by 1 run (D/L) Match scorecard
Gloucestershire overcame Derbyshire by a single run under the Duckworth-Lewis method in a rain affected CB 40 Group B game at Derby. Derbyshire made 225-8 in their 40 overs, with Wayne Madsen hitting 65 of 56 balls. But the umpires were forced to revise Gloucestershire's target after rain interrupted their innings leaving them needing 175 off 31 overs. Play was eventually stopped with the visitors on 152-5 after 28.3 overs. The game was left in the balance until it became apparent that the rain would not reside quickly, leaving Gloucestershire with the narrowest of winning margins. Alex Gidman led the visitors' response, hitting 45 before chipping to mid-wicket off Jake Needham. The bad weather first disrupted the match after 22 overs of the visitors' innings, with Gloucestershire on 103-2. The visitors then came out needing a revised target of 73 more runs to win, but play was again stopped, this time for good, with James Franklin and Hamish Marshall having done just enough to keep them ahead of the required rate.
