COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION ONE, Emirates Ground: Lancashire 136-5 v Durham Durham 1pt Match scorecard
Mitch Claydon moved to Durham from Yorkshire in 2007 |
Lancashire's batsmen struggled after Durham captain Phil Mustard put them in on a lively pitch at Chester-Le-Street. Mitch Claydon picked up two early wickets and Callum Thorp and Paul Collingwood also struck before Lancashire went to lunch on 76-4. Thorp picked up another wicket after the break, but former Durham overseas player Shivnarine Chanderpaul dug in. The West Indian was 30 not out and Luke Sutton unbeaten on 14 when heavy rain ended play with Lancashire on 136-5. After being given a flying start by the erratic bowling of Liam Plunkett, Lancashire slipped from 52-0 to 59-3 as the change bowlers capitalised on favourable conditions. The ball swung under the overcast skies and there was plenty in the pitch as Claydon proved when finding the edge of both openers' bats as they pushed forward. Stephen Moore was first to go, caught behind for 27, and Paul Horton followed for 29 when he edged at shoulder height to Michael Di Venuto at second slip. Thorp's away swing accounted for Mark Chilton, who edged to Dale Benkenstein at third slip, then Collingwood struck with his 10th ball in his first championship appearance for two years. The England man nipped one back to have Steven Croft lbw for four before Tom Smith put on 36 with Chanderpaul. Thorp had the one post-lunch success when extra bounce saw Smith caught behind for 23 when playing defensively on the back foot.
