FRIENDS PROVIDENT t20, The Rose Bowl: Middlesex 100-2 (14.2 ovs) beat Hampshire 99 (17.5 ovs) by eight wickets Match scorecard
Australian David Warner hit seven fours in his 30-ball 43 |
Middlesex hammered Hampshire by eight wickets to throw the race for the fourth and final qualifying place from the FP t20 South Group wide open. Batting first, Hampshire were blown away for just 99 with left-arm spinner Tom Smith picking up 3-26. David Warner then hit 43 from 30 deliveries at Middlesex got home on 100-2 inside 15 overs. Middlesex, Hampshire and Surrey are all now level in fourth place on 14 points with one round of matches remaining. Smith was Hampshire's chief destroyer, taking a catch and running out skipper Dominic Cork in addition to his three wickets. Initially, the Hampshire started well, despite losing Jimmy Adams in the second over, as Michael Carberry (34) played some excellent shots. However, the dismissal of James Vince in the seventh over prompted a collapse that saw Hampshire's last nine wickets tumble for just 56 runs. Warner then quashed any hopes of an unlikely win for the hosts, before Dawid Malan (25 no) and Owais Shah (15 no) took Middlesex home.
BBC Radio Solent's Kevan James: "Captain Dominic Cork was very disappointed with his side's performance, especially with the bat. The innings never really got going, and on a night when they could have sealed a place in the knockout stages Hampshire never put up a fight."
